Slacking.

I've been kind of a sloth lately.  A combination of the gloomy weather, the enormous amount of work I need to do, and the constant obstacles I face as a teacher, I'm exhaustingly unmotivated   Yes, I know I made up the word "exhaustingly."

So...where did we last leave off?  I believe I told you about my wonderful trip to see my friend in Brevard.  Since then, I've been staying busy.  I suffered a cold for about a week and a half.  Thank goodness that's gone now.  I had an IEP meeting for my little duckling.  That's what I shall refer to her as to keep her anonymous.  Anyway, that was pretty nice to get behind me.  Now all of my "major" IEP meetings are behind me.  To be honest, I hate meetings...

What else...here's a bullet point list since I'm craving another key lime cookie right now...

-Valentine's Day with bffRicky consisted of dinner at Jason's Deli (Yum!) and going to see A Haunted House (I give it a 6 out of 10).  We had a good time per usual.  And I even ran into Mrs. Puckett at the B&N nearby while I was waiting for him!  So good to see her!
-Now, I'm reading The Hunger Games
-Saw Abigail Washburn with Tasha (incredible show!)  & I met one of her guy friend and dubbed him as relationship potential for her =p
-My laptop locked me out and I had to erase my stuff to get back into it (boo!)
-Shane & his family are back in the States
-Watched a lot of Roots
-Hungout with cuzzo Nikki last week at Chili's and had such a good time laughing about everything and nothing
-Went to the CIAA with my parents and saw Chris Brown & Tatyana Ali!  #awesome!
-Dinner & SAB with Martha.  #keylimecookies #takebackcarlton

Now, I'm just hanging out at my apartment trying to catch up on life.  I've been feeling super frumpy lately.  As in I feel ugly, fat, and incompetent.  I know that's not reality, but...I kind of do...it sounds shallow, but I'm hoping once I get my hair done in a couple of weeks I'll feel more "me."  I'm also hoping that my girls night with DWoods will help cheer me up too!  We're going to Southpoint to do some shopping, pampering, and have dinner.  Oh, how I love being a girl!  :)

We had a meeting yesterday about teaching DHH children and while it was INCREDIBLY informative, I couldn't help but feel totally behind and well, not good enough.  =/

Okay, key lime cookies call.  Pray  I do P90X tonight--I've been slacking on that too.  Bleh.

Til next time...

State of the Union

I'm not going to talk about the State of the Union.  I just felt it was an appropriate title being that I have it on TV right now.  Unfortunately, I'm not really paying attention to it, but I do know they keep stopping every 2 minutes for applause.  I'm going to need the President to ask everyone to hold their applause until the end of the speech.  Just saying.

So, what's new in mi vida???  I made it to see my dear Emily at the beginning of the month.  We had a lovely, lazy weekend together and I regret nothing.  She spoiled me with friendship and food which I enjoyed.  And baby Michael introduced me to Yo Gabba Gabba!  I actually think our short visit together kind of "rekindled" our friendship.  Not that it needed rekindling, but you know how things can be as you grow up.....

I went to The Cheesecake Factory with some of my lady friends at work.  We had a great time...and rather crazy too.  The power actually went out when we were at the restaurant so it was kind of eerie.  This past weekend was pretty dull.  I didn't do much.  Oh well, I take that back.  I went to see Abigail Washburn with my friend Natasha.  What an incredible performance of music and culture!  I really didn't know what to expect, but Abigal Washburn definitely exceeded my expectations.  I definitely recommend her.  She performed a 2hr plus show while 6 months pregnant too.  Crazy!

We had our Lifegroup Conversation the other night...that was pretty nice.  I filled up on the refreshments.  lol.

Yesterday was actually pretty good to be a Monday.  Some ups and downs, but good overall.  I presented my group project for one of my graduate classes and it went well.  Even got some pretty awesome accolades from my group mates.  Right after that I found out I got a perfect score on my first research paper for my online graduate class.  All in all, a good day!  On top of that Martha invited me over for dinner and made spaghetti, salad, and garlic bread.  Yum!  Oh, except for the fact that my laptop decided to be difficult and lock me out, therefore causing me to talk to customer service today telling me I'd need to reset my computer and lose all my files.  Ugh.  I guess the bright side is I didn't have too many files of extreme importance that would need to be deleted.

Oh, I finished The Perks of being a Wallflower.  What a good book.  Mildly depressing, but really good. I couldn't put it down.  I need another book now...

Valentine's Day is coming up and I'm planning on getting dinner at Kanki with bff Ricky.

On a random note, I feel like I'm really becoming close and opening up with Sabrina, my co-worker.  She's so awesome.

Well, I think I'm going to make my favorite snack now...kettle corn popcorn!  And enjoy some tv until I get sleepy.  Actually, I need to do some things to prepare for tomorrow...ugh....responsibilities and adulthood....

Ice, Ice, Baby

What icy weather we've been having!

I was so longing and hoping to be in the mountains at this very moment with my dear friend Emily.  But thanks to Mother Nature, I'm at my apartment in my bed watching Lifetime.  I'm so bored.  On the bright side, we're planning on rescheduling our weekend together for next weekend.  If all goes as planned this will be a wonderful time to go as I've got a busy week coming up this week and will definitely appreciate a getaway thereafter.

My kiddo's IEP reeval is coming up and I just want it to be over.  My kids are such a puzzle!  It's frustrating having ten different people asking you ten different things and there not being one right answer.  The life of a teacher.  I just pray I can give my kids what they need and that their parents realize the importance of their involvement.

I've been holding onto my New Years resolutions rather well and keeping up with P90X.  I think I can already start to tell a difference.

The weather has given me lots of rest.  Franklin county was closed last Friday and we had an early release yesterday at 11:30AM.  I was feeling rather frustrated by the end of the day and Sabrina was such a help as she suggested we needed to play hookie and go get some lunch (school was pretty much over by that time).

This past Thursday was super long!  I had to stay at school until around 7:30PM for PTA night.  I was feeling some kind of way about this.  It's always so pointless for me to stay.  For one, I only have one parent that I would need to meet with.  And for another reason, I have to drive about 20 minute just to get back to the school since I'm itinerant.  Thank goodness that PTA made dinner (lasagna and salad) or I would've really been an unhappy camper.

I was observed on Thursday as well.  I would say it went okay, nothing too special.  Oh, and I got my tablets today!  Yay!  I'll have to give them to the technology facilitator next week to program.

Sherissa, Mike, and Serenity came up last weekend for Reni's cheer leading competition.  New Bern got 3rd place!  They're going to the championship in VA in July!  Hooray!

Last weekend I had a sleepover with two teacher friends of mine--Martha and Tina.  We had such a fabulous time!  I can't wait to do it again.  I'm going out with Martha tonight and her friends to go dancing.  I really need to get out.  I'm so tired of being stuck in doors and it's only been about 1 day!  I just need to get on the ball and finish all of my work.  Ugh.

My buddy Carlos lives in Raleigh now!  He made dinner for me the other week--it was delish!

Oh!  And I've signed up for Color Mania 5k in Cary with A.  I have my doubts, but he seems on board so I hope come April we have a good time doing it together.

Grad school is going okay so far.  The content has been rather interesting too.  Mostly read and respond type assignments, but I know the projects coming up are going to be a challenge.  Honestly, I was a bit hesitant in the beginning, but I can do it!  Wish me luck.

Well, I better make the most of this cold, icy day and finish my forum post for my global learning class.

Stay warm.  :)

Excerpt from October

It's officially October.  Fall weather is taking it's time to get here, but there's so much to look forward to this month: birthdays, family, NC State Fair, 5K run, Halloween, life groups at church, etc.  The first week of October proved to be a long one.  With all of the icky weather and the sickness going around there wasn't much to be excited about this week.  Work has been somewhat draining as well.  Among four different schools, I'm trying my hardest to stay on top of things.  My elementary schools are no problem, but one of my middle schools has been a bit of a challenge as I've been trying to sort out his accommodations, class placement, etc.  The staff haven't exactly been openly supportive so that's caused me to be a bit on edge.  Nonetheless, as of yesterday afternoon I officially made the changes necessary for my student and I feel like I can finally breathe.  Because this change was kind of a serious one, I can't help but think "I hope I'm doing the right things."  There's that little voice in the back of my head that keeps repeating "What if?"  Much too often, I've ignored hat voice and have seen the effects of it later.

For example, on Thursday I went to see my second grader, same time as I do everyday and he was carrying his equipment (microphone for hard of hearing students).  I was on my way in and by chance, ran into him in the hallway.  I saw him with the mic and noticed it swinging and thought to myself, "Wow, he's being kind of rough with it."  But because we were heading toward the room and I hadn't even had a chance to really transition and was lugging a huge bag and then some with me, it didn't occur to me to tell him to be careful with it.  Well, 2 minutes later when we entered the room, we noticed a piece was missing.  Oh boy, my paycheck flashed before my eyes!

20) Had a random "thing" with Amber's roommate lol

Other random memories from the past 3 months:
-Life group is going well!
-Tina is back in the area teaching again; wasn't a big fan of being a flight attendant
-Taught lil miss LW "Happy Birthday, Jesus" and she rocked!
-Saw the movies Django Unchained, Jack Reacher, and Pitch Perfect over Christmas break
--Got kinky twists and I LOVE them although I scratch my hair way too much
--Martha came to lifegroup with me one night which was swell
--speeding tickets =/
--Got a new laptop (finally) which I am using right now!

It's been a very full and happy end of the year.  I've learned a lot.  I look forward to all that 2013 has in store (friendships, relationships?, grad school, teaching, etc).  Onward!

Fall. Family. and Fluff.

So it's the season of autumn, at last.  Pumpkin flavored foods, leaves, the state fair, crisp, cool weather...I see why everyone gets riled up about this season.

I will certainly miss the warm, hot weather, but with the changing of seasons means that time is moving on and we'll be closer again to summer.  ;)

Life is good.  It's weird at times to think I'm settling into the routine of adulthood.  Nonetheless, life is good.  I was feeling incredibly sick last week and missed a couple days of work.  My parents came to the rescue and helped nurse me back to health.  Ha, they're so awesome.

My cousin Veronica and her two kids, Jaden and Vance came to visit.  They are all so sweet; I'm glad I got to see them and can't wait to see them again.

Work is going well.  The kids are learning and the teachers are stressing, but I'm proud of some of the changes I've made for my students.  My middle schooler and his brother even went to Greensboro with me last weekend to see a show, Deaf KissFist.

Other randomness:  I went camping at Lake Jordan with the CNX Youth.

I had plans for this weekend, but canceled everything because I was feeling sick.

This weekend of doing nothing was much needed though.  I've had a busy past few weeks so it was nice to just have some time for myself.

Tomorrow is our first sign language club at the middle school...wish us luck!
